According to a paper in Colorado, the Discovery Canyon Campus school school has banned the game Tag on its playground because some of the kids were being harassed or chased against their will.

Where were these administrators when I was a kid being lined up against a wall so I could "play" Dodge Ball? How bout when all the popular kids would want me to play "Red Rover"? Do you know that on 12 straight occasions, George Wolfe didn't try to break our arms apart but instead he tackled me. YEAH!

I liked playing Four Square, Kickball and Tag when I was little. I even liked playing Dodge Ball and Red Rover. Were there fights on the playground? You bet. Did bullies pick on me? What do you think?

Obviously no kid should be hurt or constantly singled out BUT, there are bullies in life and learning how to deal with them on a playground is how you learn to deal with them later in life too.

Eventually dorks, nerds, geeks and any other group that isn't a social or physical bully will stand up to their oppressor. That's the way it's been since the beginning of time and now what has happened? The bullies on that playground have been stopped from playing tag and given more ammunition to fire at will against whatever kid complained and the kid that complained in the first place and every other kid in that school has been denied the ability to learn about conflict resolution.

The problem with that is that these kids who play video games where they beat, kill and blow up everything and everyone else on a screen now have one less opportunity to learn how to sort out being part of a society...GREAT!

Raise em in cotton balls...that generation is the one that will nuke the world.

As a protestant; Pope Benedict; is giving me those oh so warm and fuzzy feelings I last had when I was first beat up at St. Mary Magdalene School in Columbus, OH. Sure I was mouthy but my real crime was not knowing the Hail Mary on my first day. I have a lot of Catholic friends and I don't say that in the same way a defensive white guy says "I got a lot of African-American friends"...I really do! I don't think this will make a blip on our relationship at all as most are not real fond of the current Pope, one going as far as calling him "Pope Benedict Arnold" proclaiming he is a traitor to the good will of the faith...I don't know about that at all but nonetheless he seems pretty eager to rework a lot of what the previous three Pope's put into place. The one thing the last few years with Pope Benedict has taught me is that he is calling on the training from his childhood and using it to guide his diplomacy. He is not real strong at bridge building to say the least. It will be interesting to see how the various Cardinals, Bishops, Priests and Parishners respond to this around the globe.

Trina and I went with some friends to see REO Speedwagon, Styx and Def Leopard IN CONCERT! I mean, it's not like we were expecting tes, ya know? Of course it was IN CONCERT. Anyway, that sort of flopped...but we had a good time anyway in an odd sort of way. Thanks to Elesa Sangeorgio who sent me Richard Grudens book on Bob Hope! It was great. I discovered I am a Quaker! How surprising, but I promise to rep the quaker in a huge way...when do I get my hat!?!?! Baseball! My Cincinnati Reds won tonight! Woo Hoo they took a series from the Giants! we are going to go see Ratatouille...tomorrow I will be back with my thoughts on the movie as well as any other incidentals that happen over the day!
